Five Portland squads crack the preseason girls soccer OSAAtoday coaches poll
With the school year nearly here, that means preseason coaches polls are coming from OSAAtoday.
The first batch came out Monday, which included the 6A and 5A football polls and all classifications of girls soccer.
In 6A girls soccer, Portland is gearing up for a memorable year as five local teams cracked the top 10.
Leading the pack is No. 2 Grant, who also received two first place votes with the other 12 going to No. 1 Jesuit.
The Generals finished runnerup last year to Jesuit, but did beat the Crusaders handedly in the regular season 5-1.
Returning for Grant is PIL Co-Offensive Player of the Year in senior Nailani Soloman, as well as first-team senior goalkeeper Lucy Kapranos.
Not far behind in the poll is No. 4 Lincoln, who is looking to break through its Grant ceiling.
The Cardinals lost to the Generals in the quarterfinals last year, which came after a loss to Grant in the semifinals in 2023.
Lincoln will have senior Frances Reuland back, an Xavier committed forward/midfielder.
Right behind Lincoln is No. 5 Central Catholic, who were upset in the second round of last year's state tournament by No. 14 Beaverton.
The Rams lost Mt. Hood Offensive Player of the Year Suzanna Fee, as well as first team forward Katie Berry, leaving some holes to fill on offense.
Returning though is first-team defender Annie Charbonneau to help lead that side of the ball.
Checking in at a tie for No. 7 is David Douglas after the Scots won their first ever state playoff game last season when they beat Cleveland. And it was so nice, they did twice, taking down St. Mary's Academy in the second round to reach the quarterfinals.
DD will need a goalkeeper after Mt. Hood Defensive Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year Evelyn Hollingsworth graduated. They also lost first-team forward Khloe Huskic, and midfielders Grace Alderton and Katee Huskic.
Rounding out the top 10 is St. Mary's Academy, who won in the first round of state last year before running into the Scots.
The Blues were a relatively young group last year, but did lose Three Rivers League first-team midfielder Mia Sena.
