Week 1 in Oregon high school football provided the usual fireworks that come with fun, nonleague matchups. And the same was true for teams around Portland.

Franklin opened the year with a double overtime victory against crosstown foe David Douglas, Parkrose took down Cleveland for its first opening win since 2014, and so much more.

Here are some of the highlights for teams around the Rose City in their week one matchups.

Franklin 22, David Douglas 19 (2OT)

David Douglas started off hot, scoring on the opening drive thanks to a Malakai Fong touchdown. Then it was ZaShawn Perez connecting with Jaxon Ketel for a 91-yard TD catch and run to make it 12-0 Scots.

Franklin got off the mat though and scored thanks to a 2-yard TD from senior Cooper Haug, but an interception the Scots turned into seven more points and a second Fong TD to make it 19-7 DD at the break.

The Lightning started the third frame off with a touchdown run from Rashawn Hunter-Barber, cutting the deficit to 19-13. Then QB Silas Combs tied the game up on scramble and pass to Remy Sharp-Hawk.

The game went to overtime where the Scots got it first, but fumbled it away. However, they returned the favor with an interception to send it to double OT.

Franklin got the ball first to start the second overtime and Max Stambaugh hit a 22-yard field goal to put the Lightning up 22-19. And on defense, Franklin got the stop and the win.

Lincoln 39, La Salle Prep 21

Two touchdowns from Zac Galton helped Lincoln open the year with a road win at La Salle Prep, avenging a close 10-7 loss last season.

The Cardinals had a couple big plays, one coming from junior Reed Eldridge returning a punt for a TD and the other being a 70+ yard run from senior Finn Davies.

Junior Leo Correani scored a touchdown and so did Greyson Murff to round out the scoring for Lincoln.

Parkrose 32, Cleveland 12

Senior Canby-transfer Tranden Stricker had quite the introduction, throwing for 228 yards with two TDs as well as rushing for 87 yards and two more TDs. And on defense he had an interception.

And oh yeah, he's not even supposed to be the quarterback.

Central Catholic 36, Central Catholic (CA) 22

Down south in Modesto, California, the Portland version of Central Catholic were winners again in a matchup between matching-named schools that the Rams won in 2024 at home 45-29.

This time it was 36-22 thanks in part to senior QB Robbie Long and his three TD passes. Hauling them in were TE Seager Milholen, wideout Talon Sosky and WR Dayvion Curtis.

Senior Cole Thomas also had a pick-six on the defensive side, and the final score came from senior RB Tyson Davis on the ground.

Sherwood 31, Roosevelt 18

The Roughriders hung close to what’s been a powerful program over the last few years in Sherwood.

QB Ezra Arp had three touchdown passes, one each to Miles Green, Caelen Riley and Geovoney Burks. Senior O’Siah Banks also had an interception to help Roosevelt stay in contention throughout the night.

Oregon City 34, Grant 7

Some missed opportunities for the Generals on the tough night in Oregon City according to head coach John Beck. The Pioneers had good tempo and pass execution to pick apart Grant and send the Generals to an 0-1 start.

Hillsboro 50, McDaniel 14

This one was close until it wasn’t. Hillsboro led 16-8 in the third quarter when a muffed kickoff return sparked a quick descent for the Mountain Lions.

Despite the final score, senior Jaydin Jordan had a “huge” game according to head coach Russell Millage, giving his McDaniel squad something to build on heading to Week 2.

Clackamas 58, Wells 36

The Guardians’ well-oiled offensive machine was rolling to the tune of 476 rushing yards, but it wasn’t enough to overcome four turnovers. Oliver Hamzaoui led the scoring front with three touchdowns.

Glencoe 46, Jefferson 12
